Diabetes is the "epidemic of our time" according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.  Approximately 20.8 million Americans have diabetes.  About 6 million of these people don't know it and an additional 41 million people are estimated to have pre-diabetes.  Although most of us associate diabetes with insulin shots and being unable to eat anything we like, those thoughts pale in comparison with the complications when diabetes is left unmanaged.  According to the CDC, every 24 hours at least 810 people with diabetes die, 230 undergo amputation, 120 learn they need kidney dialysis and 55 go blind.
